March 14th: Sikh Environment Day

The week of March 14th, hundreds of Sikh Gurdwaras across Punjab and the world will be taking part in the Sikh Environment Day. The day marks the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Har Rai Ji, who is remembered for his deep sensitivity to the natural world.

Gurdwaras will take part by:

*Singing shabads and reciting katha focused on the environment
*Holding ceremonial tree plantings
*Children's reflections on Sikhi and the environment
*Creating environmental notice boards

Gurdwaras are also coming up with creative ways to celebrate the day, including children's environmental art displays, nagar kirtans with environmental themes, and reducing energy and water use.
